Studio Policies

“The best preparation for tomorrow is to do today’s work superbly well.” — William Osler

Tuition & Payment

Except for the first no-obligation lesson, payment is due at the beginning of each month. The first month will be prorated, and every month thereafter will be charged as a whole. Payment can be received through Venmo, PayPal, or bank transfer.

All contracts are month-to-month. Tuition covers all supplies, lesson and theory books, and recitals.

Switching Lesson Days

We are willing to accommodate the date and time of regular lessons, so long as there is availability and reasonable notice is given. Feel free anytime. I will get back to you within 24 business hours.

Make-Up Lessons

No make-up lessons are offered for absences. In the case of illness, students can request a Zoom lesson, videos or other learning resources to use, or simply pass for the week.

Please do notify the instructor as soon as you know you will not be attending lessons.

Practice

Practice is not mandatory to take piano lessons at this studio. However, I will kindly encourage age-appropriate and priority-appropriate practice in all students. In other words, no embarrassment if you don’t practice, and loads of positive reinforcement if you do.

Each lesson will include guided practice. The more a student practices at home, however, the more we will get to engage in other learning activities during studio time.

Ending All Lessons at the Studio

If you wish to discontinue piano lesson, please give at least a week’s notice. If at least a week’s notice is given, we can work with students in returning a prorated tuition for all remaining lessons in the month after the week’s notice is completed.

Attending a Minor’s Lessons

Parents and guardians are welcome to attend the trial lesson. Afterwards, the goal is to create a situation that the minor student is most comfortable with and can grow the most. This typically means parents will be next to students ages 2-4, in the studio with students from ages 4-6, and outside the studio when the student is 7+. We are open to whatever best builds confidence and facilitates a happy learning environment.

Adults are expected to follow the instructor’s cues on how to act in studio. For example, please avoid talking on behalf of the child unless the child shows they would like the support. Children can sometimes give imaginative accounts of what happened in the last week. Take note of anything you would like to clarify, and in most cases, it is most appropriate to bring it up in the last couple of minutes of the lesson. Before the lesson begins is also a good time to chat with the instructor.

Feel free to zone out with a good book or game of sudoku if waiting in the studio. I will alert you if I have any questions.

Recitals and Competitions

During at least the first year of instruction, we will be building up the child’s repertoire to prepare for future public recitals and competitions with other students. The preparation time may be shortened to six months if students are adequately prepared.

We also host semiannual in-studio recitals on Saturdays and Sundays. Just the student and those closest to them will be invited to attend.
